Detroit Rolls Out Welcome Mat

Here’s something to make the day a little more interesting if you’re in Michigan next month. Detroit Diesel has announced that in recognition of all of the hard-working truck drivers that keep America’s economy rolling, it has designated August as “Detroit Diesel Driver Appreciation Month.”

During the month of August, truck drivers and owners will have the exclusive opportunity to visit the Detroit Diesel manufacturing facility for a special presentation, lunch and a behind-the-scenes plant tour. Guests will also receive official Detroit Diesel merchandise and an information packet. It’s open to all drivers, though those behind Detroit Diesel engines are especially welcome.

“Detroit Diesel drivers are truly the backbone of our business because they are actually experiencing the engines at work, every day,” says Brad Williamson, manager, engine and component marketing for Detroit Diesel. “Our Driver Appreciation Month is our way of saying thank you to all of our hard-working customers and potential customers.”

In my experience, the Detroit Diesel plant is one of the most modern and efficient engine plants in the world. It was extensively overhauled for statistical process control with the introduction of the Series 60. When the Heavy Duty Engine Platform was introduced with the DD15 in 2007, the plant was further upgraded to state of the art.

Detroit Diesel’s ultra-modern facility manufactures the DD13, DD15 and DD16 family of engines. The plant has received recognition for its environmentally friendly production processes, most recently earning the 2011 Michigan Green Leader Award from the Detroit Free Press.

To schedule a visit, CDL licensed drivers must sign-up at least 48 hours in advance. Register at http://www.detroitdiesel.com/.
